Job Description - Excellent opportunity to work in a leading scientific institution with dedicated professionals
- Offering outstanding career development and professional support
- Join CSIRO - Australia's premier science and technology research organisation
We are seeking to appoint a motivated Postdoctoral fellow to work as part of a bioinformatics and statistics team to help analyse the epigenetic and other sequence data that the biologists will be generating. This project is running in parallel with another project on integrating ‘omics sequence data and there will be considerable collaboration and sharing between these two projects. The EpiSCOPE project is investigating the relationships between obesity, epigenetics, and embryonic, fetal and neonatal nutrition. You will provide statistical and bioinformatics input to a multidisciplinary team working to understand the epigenome of human adipose tissue. The initial project will be to develop high resolution epigenome maps, including both methylation and chromatin marks. This epigenome data will be integrated with transcriptome data to get an understanding of the normal state of adipose tissue. Specifically you will: - Investigate and develop methods for the analysis of sequencing-based epigenetic datasets.
- Create test datasets using simulation and identify and obtain appropriate online databases for method validation
- Apply the chosen methods to the analysis of the project datasets, producing epigenome maps, comparing these maps across subjects, and identifying signatures and candidate biomarkers.
- Work with all participants in developing effective procedures for data entry and validation
- Produce high quality scientific and technical outputs including journal articles, conference papers and presentations, patents and technical reports
Location: North Ryde, NSW Salary: AU$75K - $82K per annum plus up to 15.4% Superannuation Tenure: 3 year term To be successful you will have: - A PhD or shortly satisfy the requirements for a PhD in statistics, bioinformatics or related discipline.
- Demonstrated conceptual and practical knowledge and skills in statistical methods and the analysis of biological data from high throughput biological data collection platforms.
- Strong programming skills in Perl, R, S+ or similar languages applicable to statistics and bioinformatics.
- Demonstrated originality, creativity and innovation in solving problems and introducing new directions and approaches.
- Strong written and oral communication skills including an ability to publish research results write reports and make scientific presentations to audiences with scientific and non-scientific background.
You will be mentored by senior scientists as part of CSIRO’s Postdoctoral Fellows Program which aims to train early career scientists for a research role.
