Description
Brighton and Sussex Medical School seek to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Division of Clinical and Laboratory Investigation in the field of Developmental Tissue Biology.
"To explore the role of cellular and tissue interactions during the development and repair of tendons"
The post is within a research group with interests covering aspects of musculoskeletal morphogenesis and repair and craniofacial development. The post provides an opportunity for a developmental biologist to develop a range of research skills and contribute to a competitive research programme.
The post-holder will work primarily on a project exploring the role of cellular and tissue interactions which occur during the development and repair of tendon. Tendon is a tissue that is prone to injury, particularly in athletes, but has a poor ability to repair itself. Using in vitro and in vivo approaches we aim to identify the factors necessary for promoting normal tendon morphogenesis. We will use these factors to manipulate the characteristics of specific tendon cell populations to assess the efficacy of these modified cells to make tendon and to fully integrate with developing, normal and repairing tendon tissue. The post would suit a researcher with a keen interest in developmental biology or musculoskeletal biology.
The post holder will also be required to contribute to the day-to-day running of Dr Evans' laboratory and assist in supervising of undergraduate and postgraduate student research projects.
