Description
Imperial College is ranked in the top ten universities of the world, according to the 2006 Times Higher Education Supplement league tables.
We are looking to recruit a well motivated molecular biologist with an interest in muscle biology to join a group investigating the molecular mechanisms behind skeletal atrophy associated with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
The aim of the study is to identify potential markers of muscle atrophy in samples of human skeletal muscle. This project is a collaboration between the laboratories of Prof Mike Polkey at the Royal Brompton Hospital and Dr Paul Kemp at Imperial College.
Applicants should have a Ph.D in a biological science or equivalent professional qualification and experience. Experience of handling human tissue samples, quantitative real-time PCR or immunofluoresence would be an advantage.
The post is funded by GlaxoSmithKline and will be full time for 11 months in the first instance.
