Description

The Garvan Institute is one of Australia’s medical research institutions with approximately 400 scientists, students and support staff working in research programs in Cancer, Diabetes & Obesity, Immunology & Inflammation, Osteoporosis, and Neuroscience.

The Cancer Research Program is an integrated series of strongly interactive Research Groups undertaking research aimed at increasing the international knowledge base on the development, progress, treatment and prevention of human cancers. The current emphasis centres on developing a deeper understanding of the control of cellular proliferation and differentiation in several common cancers, particularly breast, prostate, pancreas, lung and ovarian cancer. The areas of research activity currently being pursued include: cancer genetics and epigenetics, cell cycle regulation, developmental biology, steroid hormone action, signal transduction and translational research.

A vacancy exists for a highly motivated post-doctoral scientist to join the Ovarian Cancer Research Group, a collaboration with the Gynaecological Cancer Centre at the Royal Hospital for Women. The Ovarian Cancer Group has a strong translational focus aimed at identifying new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for ovarian cancer. The appointee will take part in a project that aims to identify epigenetic markers for ovarian cancer detection.

Essential: PhD and research experience in epigenetics, molecular biology and/or cell biology, with a strong publication record in international biomedical journals.

Desirable: Knowledge of epigenetic assays is desirable. Experience in in vitro and in vivo models of biomarker validation would be advantageous.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate a capacity for initiative, teamwork and a keen interest in translational research.
