Description

University of Oxford

Department of Physiology Anatomy and Genetics

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research assistant to join a team of researchers working on the development of RNA interference-based gene silencing in the central nervous system (Human Molecular Genetics 2003; 12: 2637-44; Human Molecular Genetics 2003; 12: R279-84). The project is under the direction of Dr Matthew Wood and based in the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics (http://www.dpag.ox.ac.uk). The post is funded for one year in the first instance as part of a research collaboration with GlaxoSmithKline. The research will involve close collaboration with Dr Jill Richardson based at GlaxoSmithKline laboratories in Harlow, UK.

Applicants should have a degree in a relevant area of molecular and cellular biology and interests in molecular neuroscience and RNA interference-based gene silencing technology. Experience in molecular biology is essential, and expertise with tissue culture, RNA interference techniques, the use of viral vectors for gene delivery and in vivo experimentation would be highly desirable. The successful candidate will be expected to assist in the day-to-day supervision of less experienced laboratory personnel and graduate students.

The project will provide excellent opportunities for interaction with colleagues working in the neurosciences and in functional genetics. State-of-the-art research facilities are available in the Department and in the newly established Henry Wellcome Trust Building for Gene Function.
