Science jobs from University of Jyväskylä, Department of Biological and Environmental Science: job description
The Department of Biological and Environmental Science is an internationally recognized research and teaching unit. The department covers Aquatic Sciences, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Cell and Molecular Biology, and Environmental Science and Technology. The department houses the Finnish Center of Excellence in Biological Interactions. The department enjoys an outstanding environment, occupying modern buildings on the shore of Lake Jyväsjärvi. The department has well-equipped laboratories, as well as specialist facilities of molecular biology, cell biology and structural biology.
The department is currently seeking to recruit staff to the following positions:
Postdoctoral researchers (2 positions, contract length maximum of four years). Positions will be filled as soon as possible, or at latest starting from 1 August 2012.
Postdoctoral researchers are expected to focus on scientific research, but also to participate in teaching within their own areas of expertise. The postdoctoral researchers are being recruited in Cell and Molecular Biology .
Position 1 . Role of cytoskeleton anchorage in integrin-dependent cell adhesion. The aim of this project is to find out by using cultured cells expressing fluorecent proteins, where does integrin-filamin this interaction take place: in the leading edge, nascent adhesion complexes, mature adhasion complexes, vesicular structures. We are looking for a scientist who has experience in fluorescence and confocal microscopy and possibly also in super-resolution light microscopy tehniques. The selected scientist is also expected to participate in the maintenance of departmental light microscopy facilities.
Position 2 . The mechanosensor function of Drosophila filamin (cher) in oogenesis. The aim of this project is to use targeted mutagenesis is Drosophila melanogaster to test whether mechanical regulation of filamin interactions has a role in Drosophila oogenesis. This project is a collaboration with the group of Nick Brown in the Wellcome Trust/ Cancer Research UK Gurdon Institute at the University of Cambridge, UK. The candidate will be employed by the University of Jyväskylä but is expected to split her/his time between Cambridge and Jyväskylä.
