job description

RESEARCH ASSOCIATE – Bone Physiology
A full-time postdoctoral research associate is required to carry out research into the effects of
parathyroid hormone (PTH ) on blood flow to bone in vivo, to determine whether improved
blood flow could help account for the anabolic effects of PTH and other vasoactive
substances. S/he will join a successful team of researchers at UCL (Prof Tim Arnett), Imperial College (Dr Massimo Marenzana) and the Royal Veterinary College (Dr Chantal Chenu and
Prof Andy Pitsillides). The key initial phase of this challenging project will be undertaken
primarily at Imperial College (Department of Bioengineering, South Kensington Campus). The
position is funded for two years in the first instance by Arthritis Research UK, and can
commence from April 2012.

Applicants should have a PhD in experimental biology with good knowledge of endocrinology,
vascular physiology, bone biology, pharmacology and statistics. Experience of in vivo work,
including anaesthesia and laser Doppler imaging is needed; microscopy and histology skills
would be useful. Applicants should also have excellent written and verbal communication
skills, including the ability to prepare manuscripts for publication.

The salary is £31,905 – £32,778 per annum (Grade 7), including London allowance.
