The Allada laboratory is seeking energetic and highly motivated individuals to immediately fill postdoctoral positions. Our research is focused on circadian clocks and sleep using primarily the fruit fly Drosophila but with an interest in expanding into mammals. Our work incorporates a range of approaches including molecular genetics and genomics, patch clamp electrophysiology and live imaging, and behavior. Current projects address the following questions/projects:

1. What are the core timing mechanisms of the circadian clock? These studies include our discovery of a novel translational regulatory pathway (Lim et al., Nature, 2011)

2. How is temporal information from core clocks communicated to control neural circuit activity and function (Zhang et al., Current Biology, 2010; Lear et al., PLoS Biology, 2009).

3. How does disturbed clock function impact cell physiology, survival, metabolism, and aging?

4. What is the molecular and circuit basis of sleep homeostasis? (Pitman et al., Nature, 2006)

Experience with molecular biology, electrophysiology, immunofluorescence, or Drosophila is highly preferred but not essential. We also invite those with an interest in mouse or human studies.
