Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position within the Chromatin Biochemistry Group at the  MRC -Clinical Sciences Centre. We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a strong background in chromatin biology. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to investigate the molecular mechanisms of chromatin regulation by  DNA   and histone modification patterns.

purpose:
The Chromatin Biochemistry Group at the  MRC -CSC   is headed by Dr Till Bartke and aims to understand how combinations of  DNA   and histone modifications regulate the activity of chromatin. We are particularly interested in the molecular mechanisms that underlie epigenetic gene regulation events during tumour formation and differentiation processes. We employ the tools of chemical biology, biochemistry and proteomics in conjunction with tissue culture and chromatin techniques in order to identify and study chromatin-associated protein complexes that can recognise  DNA   and histone modification patterns. Recent publications that outline the future research directions are: Bartke et al., 2010 (Cell   143: 470-484); Bartke et al., 2011 (Cell Cycle   10, 182).

Candidates should have a PhD in Molecular Biology (or equivalent) with a strong background in chromatin biology. Experience in using genomic technologies (ChIP/ChIPseq and  RNA   sequencing, microarrays) for epigenetic and gene expression profiling of tissue culture cells is essential. The post holder will also be familiar with molecular biology and biochemical techniques (molecular cloning, expression and purification of recombinant proteins) and be willing to engage in internal and external collaborations.

The Chromatin Biochemistry Group is a newly established group at the  CSC   and as such offers start-up spirit and the opportunity to work on cutting-edge inter-disciplinary projects. The  CSC   provides an excellent research environment in an international and interactive atmosphere. We are looking for a highly motivated and committed individual with clear goals, a proactive and flexible attitude to work, and the will to learn new concepts and technologies to join our team.

Direct informal enquiries to Dr Till Bartke (till.bartke@csc.mrc.ac.uk )
