Description

Three post-doctoral positions are available immediately in the laboratory of Mohammad Azam, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and Medical Center in the Division of Experimental Hematology & Cancer Biology, and University of Cincinnati, School of Medicine in Department of Pathology, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. Azam’s Lab studies the molecular mechanisms involve in tyrosine kinase regulation and how their deregulation initiates the oncogenic processes (Cell. 2003,112:831-43. PNAS. 2006 ;103: 9244-9, Nat Struct Mol Biol. 2008;15:1109-18).

We are currently investigating the signaling network operated by oncogenic kinases in hematopoietic stem cells and leukemic stem cells. We have also initiated the effort to understand the molecular underpinnings for “cancer stem cell” development and maintenance in leukemias and solid tumors.
Successful candidates will pursue studies in areas that include:

1. Structure and function analysis of oncogenic tyrosine kinases using random mutagenesis, biochemical characterization and developing mouse models.

2. Identification and characterization of cancer stem cells in leukemias initiated by deregulation of BCR/ABL and JAK2 kinases.

3. Developing the humanized mouse model of leukemias using human embryonic stem cells

Highly motivated, hard working recent Ph.D. /M.D. graduates are welcome to apply for this Post-doctoral fellowship positions. Candidates must have strong background in molecular and cellular biology including: cloning, transfection/infection of cells, PCR, and Southern/Northern/Western blotting. Experience in tissue culture, QPCR, mutational assays, FACS analysis and handling with mice is highly desirable. Candidates should have strong organizational, written and verbal skills, and possess the ability to work both independently and as part of a laboratory team.
