Salary
~4100,75/month GROSS (includes additional allowances for travel and mobility)
Description
Research Focus :
Myopia is a highly prevalent disorder characterized by nearsightednessand retinal complications. The pathophysiology of the disease remainsunknown and most recent studies involved environmental and geneticcomponents whose major effect are the biochemical modification of theeye sclera and lengthening of the eye globe.
Aim of the project :
To evaluate the genetics component of myopia in familial cases and in acase control study. Two major themes are to be developed :
1 – To evaluate candidate genes mutations or variants in the a recentlyidentified chromosome 7 locus (unpublished data)
2 – To achieve statistics, considering participation of several genesand evaluating multiple quantitative loci traits
This project is part of a European myeuropia collaboration(http://www.my-europia.net/contact.html) in London, Cardiff, Munich,Murcia and Leipzig including interlab exchanges and national conferencesas part of a Research Traning Network (RTN).
The laboratory is part of the “Functional genetics of epithelialdiseases” department in the INSERM U563 research unit, located on thecampus of Toulouse hospital (Purpan). This research unit provides a veryattractive scientific environment and all the necessary facilities forthe project (DNA genotyping and sequencing platform).
Candidates should have a strong background in molecular biology and/orin statistical genetics. An experience in linkage analysis andassociation studies, quantitative traits genetics and in experimental orin silico gene identification would be appreciated. Also, candidatesmust be either of European origin having not previously received aEuropean funding last year in France, or of French origin but havingspent a year abroad without European funding.
