job description

A post-doctoral fellow position is now available in the Department of Physiology at the University of Toronto. The University of Toronto and particularly the Department of Physiology, where insulin was discovered, has a strong training program in Diabetes research. The research program will focus on the functional characterization of beta-like cells from stem cell sources with the aim of developing a replacement therapy for diabetes. The candidates will use a wide range of technologies including fluorescence imaging, molecular and cellular biology and possibly electrophysiology to understand the glucose sensing, insulin synthesis and processing and insulin secretory machinery of these stem cell-derived beta cells compared to islet-derived beta cells.

The successful candidates will have recently obtained (within 3 years) a PhD degree in biomedical sciences. They should have a proven research track record including publications in peer-reviewed journals and excellent oral and written communication skills. Experience in cell and molecular biology is essential. A practical knowledge of high content screening, fluorescence imaging and cellular expression assays would be an asset.

Interested individuals should send a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and contact information of 3 references to: Dr. Emma Allister at emma.allister@utoronto.ca .
