Job Description:

A postdoctoral position is available to study molecular and cellular mechanisms of tissue remodeling in inflammation and cancer at the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology (CMB), Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden.

Department:

CMB is a department strongly focused on basic science conducting research in several areas of cell, molecular and developmental biology. More than 20 independent research groups exist and they are organized in five themes: Molecular Cell Biology, Developmental and Stem Cell Biology, Gene Regulation, Genome Structure and Integrity and Infection and Cancer. CMB offers a broad international working environment and consists of approximately 250 scientist, students, administrative and technical personnel from various countries.

Project:

Loss of tissue integrity and barrier function is a characteristic feature of diseases like chronic inflammation and cancer progression into an invasive state. Endothelial cells of blood and lymphatic vessels proliferate leading to the expansion of these tissue compartments by angiogenesis and/or remodeling. During tumor progression, tumor epithelial cells loose their context-dependent growth properties, which allows them to migrate into the stroma. Overall, the degree of tissue remodeling correlates with prognosis and a better understanding of the mechanisms involved could lead to new treatment strategies. This project will specifically focus on how two cytokines; angiopoietin-1 (Ang1) and transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β), contribute to remodeling of endothelial and epithelial cell layers in inflammation and cancer.

Candidates:

Interested candidates should have a PhD or MD with experience in molecular, cellular, and biochemical techniques, including cell culture work and confocal imaging. Experience in working with mouse models including surgery, cell and tissue isolation, heart perfusion etc is desirable.

Please send your application including a brief statement of research interests, curriculum vitae and names with addresses of 2 references, preferably via email.
