Responsibilitie********
Department chairs report to the CMO for all professional an********administrative activities within their ******** particularly for thequality of patient care given by department physicians an******** theperformance of any patient care evaluations an******** functions thatthe quality committee delegates to their departments.
Each department chair shall:
• Submit written reports to the MAB concerning the findings of thedepartment's patient care evaluation an******** activities (e.g., PeerReview cases) an******** resulting actions;
• Make recommendations for maintaining an******** the quality of careprovide******** the department an******** hosp******** an******** othermatters the MAB considers appropriate for reports;
• Develop an******** departmental programs, in cooperation with the CMOan******** committees as assigne******** the CMO for:
Evaluation of patient care,
Growth of the ********
Increasing complexity an******** the level of medical careprovide******** the ********
Ongoing monitoring of clinical pract********

Utilization review;
• As a member of the MAB, provide input on medical policies of thehosp******** an******** specific recommendations regarding her or hisown department;
• Continuously review the performance of all physicians with clinicalprivileges an******** services in the ******** an******** report thefindings of such reviews to CMO, the MAB, an******** quality improvementcommittee;
• Transmit recommendations concerning clinical pr********specifie********, or corrective action with respect to physicians in thedepartment to the MAB an******** CMO;
• Appoint an******** chairs for any intradepartmental committees thatare necessary for conducting department functions;
• Enforce medical staff bylaws, rules, regulat******** an******** withinthe ******** an******** investigations of clinical performance or orderconsultat******** when necessary;
• Implement any actions taken by the MAB and/or the boar******** thedepartment;
• Participate in every phase of administration in the ******** such ascooperating with nursing services an******** in matters affectingpatient care, including personnel, suppl******** special regulat********standing or******** an********;
• Assist in the preparation of quarterly reports pertaining to the******** including budgetary planning reports, as require******** theMAB, the General Manager of the hosp******** or the board;
• Act as the lead (with assistance of the CMO an******** Human Resourcesdepartment) in medical staff recruiting;
• Appoint an assistant department cha******** if necessary, with theconcurrence of the CMO; an******** any other duties as may berequeste******** the CMO, the MAB, or the Governing Body.

Each department chair must be a full member of the medical staff asdefine******** the Medical Staff Bylaws. Preference is given to thosecandidates who also have a working knowledge of management techniquesand/or have prior successful service within the medical staff structure— for example, as chair of a medical staff comm******** member-at-largeof the MAB or medical staff representative to a hospital committee.
