Description:
PhD positon and Postdoc position is available for studying the human microbiome and antibiotic resistance using synthetic biology and metagenomics.
The goal is to improve our understanding of how antibiotic resistance evolves in microbial communities and which interactions shape and stabilize microbial communities.
We will develop and apply cutting edge functional metagenomic techniques, next generation sequencing and single cell analysis to understand nature to build models that allow the bottom up reconstitution of synthetic communities that recapitulate the behavior of natural systems.

The Sommer lab at DTU is studying the fundamental principles underlying microbial community structure and dynamics, with a focus on antibiotic resistance, the human microbiome and industrial biotechnology.
The positions need to be filled as soon as possible – at the latest 1 January 2011.
Overall a preferred applicant has an excellent academic track record, solid research experience and is highly motivated towards developing new technology and making scientific breakthroughs.
PhD position
Candidates applying for a PhD scholarship should have a master’s degree in the natural sciences or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master’s degree in engineering.
The scholarships for the PhD degree are subject to academic approval and the candidates will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes of DTU. For information about the general requirements for enrolment and the general planning of the scholarship studies, please see the DTU PhD Guide.
The salary and appointment terms are consistent with the current rules for PhD degree students. The period of employment is 3 years.
Postdoc position
Post Doc candidates should have a PhD in the natural sciences with outstanding results and publications.
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union. The period of employment is 3 years.
