The Queensland Brain Institute (QBI) was established as a researchinstitute of the University of Queensland in 2003. The Institute is nowoperating out of a new $63 million state-of-the-art facility and houses24 Principal Investigators with strong international reputations. TheQBI is one of the largest neuroscience institutes in the world dedicatedto understanding the mechanisms underlying brain function. Details ofthe current QBI interdisciplinary research programs can be found at http://www.qbi.uq.edu.au.
The Role: The position is for an electrophysiologist with experience inin vitro recording techniques to undertake research into theneurophysiology of the medial prefrontal cortex. It aims to investigatethe mechanisms underlying dendritic integration and synaptic plasticityin the prefrontal cortex. It will also involve examining the intrinsiccircuitry of this structure. Understanding these features will pave theway to understanding the functioning on the prefrontal cortex, and itsrole in neurological disorders such as schizophrenia, depression and ADHD.
The Person: Applicants should possess a PhD and have Experience withelectrophysiological recordings using sharp or whole cellmicroelectrodes. Experience with dendritic patch clamp recordings fromneurons in acute brain slices would be an advantage
Remuneration: This is a full-time, fixed term appointment for up to 2years (with the possibility of extension) at Academic Research Level A.The remuneration package will be in the range of $60,391 to $64,827 PLUSemployer superannuation contributions of 17%.
