The current BME of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University team has been develope******** on the Jockey Club Rehabilitation Engineering Center (REC) which was establishe******** 1987 with a Jockey Club endowment an******** the 1st ever BME-relate******** unit in Hong Kong. Because of our long history an******** contribution to Rehabilitation Eng******** we are recognize******** locally an******** as a leader in Rehabilitation Engineering. In 2005, REC was merge******** the Medical Laboratory Science an******** disciplines to form the Department of Health Technology & Informatics under the Faculty of Health an******** Sciences. In line with the international practice that BME programmes are usually classifie******** engineering discipline an******** University strategic development in BME, the Interdisciplinary Division of Biomedical Engineering was formally establishe******** 1 April 2012 in the Faculty of Engineering. It is the first interdisciplinary division of the University for enhancing collaborative culture an******** interdisciplinary research an******** of the University. Some of our technologies have been successfully license******** industry for commerc******** such as robotic han******** stroke rehab******** 3D ultrasoun******** scoliosis assessment, ultrasoun******** imaging for breast cancer ******** etc. We believe that BME with inherent interdisciplinary nature will continue to play the role to bridge the innovation an******** in engineering/technology an******** needs an******** in medical/healthcare fields.
