A postdoctoral position is available to study the molecular pathogenesis of Lyme disease, more specifically the role of genes controlled by the alternative sigma factor RpoS in tick-to-mammal transmission of Borrelia burgdorferi and persistence of mammalian infection. The project involves the use of mutagenesis, fluorescent reporters, and various microscopy techniques, including live-imaging confocal microscopy, to elucidate expression profiles and physiological/pathogenesis-related functions of RpoS-controlled B. burgdorferi genes in ticks and mice. A Ph.D. as well as a background in microbiology, expertise with recombinant DNA and RNA techniques, and a solid understanding of prokaryotic gene regulation are required. Special consideration will be given to applicants who have prior experience with advanced microscopy techniques. Please email curriculum vitae and the names, telephone numbers, and e-mail addresses of references to Dr. Justin Radolf (JRadolf@up.uchc.edu), University of Connecticut Health Center, Farmington, CT 06030-3715.
