Description
The Vector Entomology Unit was launched in 2007 at the Institute of Parasitology, which consists of several further research groups (molecular parasitology, parasitic zoonoses, veterinary parasitology). The unit has a broad research spectrum on various aspects of arthropod vectors (vector capacity, bionomics of the invasive Asian bush mosquito Aedes japonicus, development of novel identification tools and of novel intervention options, spatio-temporal diversity of insect vectors, epidemiology of vector-borne parasitoses). Our lab acts as the Swiss National Centre for Vector Entomology (NZVE), as appointed by the Swiss Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office. Through its activities, the centre plays a central role in the early recognition of vector-borne epizootics and zoonoses and provides expertise for the identification of arthropod vectors in Switzerland. The NZVE engages in teaching as well as consulting for other institutions active in the field of vector entomology.
Purpose
The research focus of the successful applicant is flexible, along the general lines of the group's research, and will depend on his/her experience and interests. The incumbent is expected to raise external funds and to contribute to the National Centre’s tasks. National and international collaborations should further be strengthened.
Requirements
Applicants should hold a PhD or veterinary dissertation, a background in entomology/ecology and a strong interest in laboratory and/or field work.
Languages
A good command of English is essential, and good knowledge of one of the major languages in Switzerland (German, French) is a strong asset.http://www.eurosciencejobs.com/job_display/89203/Vector_Entomology_Academic_Associate_or_Postdoc_University_of_Zurich_Zurich_Switzerland
