The Pediatric Oncology Experimental Therapeutics Investigators’ Consortium ( POETIC ) is an academic collaborative composed of ten large academic medical centers in North America with the aim to provide effective early phase clinical trials for children and young adults with refractory malignancies. This position is to work in the POETIC laboratory for preclinical and drug discovery studies at the University of Calgary to generate novel monoclonal antibodies (recombinant and or humanized) against viral antigens. Within this objective, you will have the freedom to explore novel concepts and ideas for the identification of novel therapeutic agents. Your work will generate strong pre-clinical evidence to formulate early phase clinical trials. These trials are the essential first steps in bringing new treatments for our patients. Ultimately, the publication of the data from these studies will lead to Phase II studies, thus providing the much needed therapeutic avenues for children locally and around the world.
Qualifications: You must have a doctoral degree in a relevant field with research expertise in molecular and cellular biology and experimental models. Expertise in virology would be an advantage.
Position Expectations: To be an independent and critical thinker, a dedicated scientist with energy, compassion and initiative to take on difficult tasks. You should be able to assist in the preparation of research grant proposals and publications. There will be opportunities, as needed, to teach and to interact with scientists from academia, pharmaceutical industry and with clinicians.
Interested candidates should send a cover letter, a CV and contact information for three academic referees to firstname.lastname@example.org
