Job Description
 
CSIRO Materials Science and Engineering are seeking to appoint a highly motivated graduate who will design, synthesize, characterize and test electroactive polymers and composites for biomedical applications such as neural implants for sensing and stimulation. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team including chemists, biologists and device engineers, contributing to the development of materials to enhance the interaction of electrodes with the biological tissues to extend the functional life of the implants. This is an excellent opportunity for you to develop new capability leading to in-depth understanding the parameters controlling the communication between electroactive materials and biological tissues. 
 
Location: Clayton, Victoria, Australia 
Salary: $81K - $88K plus up to 15.4% superannuation 
Tenure: Specified term of 2 years

To be successful in this position you will need: 
* A PhD in chemistry, polymer chemistry, materials science & engineering with experience in polymer synthesis and characterisation. 
* Demonstrated skills and experience in design, synthesis, characterisation and processing of polymers. 
* Experience in general polymer characterisation techniques, such as NMR, SEC, FTIR, and microscopy techniques including SEM, TEM and demonstrated ability to learn new instrumentation techniques. 
* Demonstrated skills in solving scientific/technical problems based on a systematic approach with sound scientific reasoning.
