Description
Role of class I HDACs in transcriptional regulation
Background
Chromatin serves as the packaging material for DNA and regulates, by means of histone modifications, numerous biological processes such as transcription, recombination and cell cycle progression. Acetylation of histones is kept in a delicate balance by histone acetylases (HATs) and histone deacetylases (HDACs). Disturbance of this balance is observed in several pathologies including cancer. HDAC-inhibitors have proven clinical efficacy and are currently tested in clinical trials involving different tumor types.
Project
Understanding the individual role of class I HDACs in the context of the Sin3A complex in transcriptional regulation and cancer biology will be the focus of this project. To this end we will employ a multidisciplinary approach involving conditional knock-out mice, DamID profiling, genome wide functional genetic screens as well as cell biology. This 2-year project, funded by the Dutch Cancer Society, will be carried out in the laboratory of Dr. Jan-Hermen Dannenberg.
Requirements
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated personality with a strong background in molecular biology, transcriptional regulation and chromatin biology as well as the ability to conduct cutting-edge research. Knowledge of molecular biology, genomics, or bioinformatics is also highly desirable.
Employment conditions
The employment agreement will be for a period of 2 years. The gross monthly salary for a post-doc is according to FWG-scale 55 (up to € 3.426,00) and depends on previous experience. The terms of employment will be in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Hospitals (CAO). We can assist you in finding housing in the area.
Enquiries
Informal enquiries are encouraged and can be made directly to Dr. Jan-Hermen Dannenberg (j.dannenberg@nki.nl, +31 20-5121993)
