Postdoctoral positions are available in projects that develop and assesscandidate vaccines against blood stage malaria parasites.

The successful candidate will work in a team of scientists thatintegrate clinical, functional genomics, molecular biology, andimmunology approaches to develop and assess candidate vaccines. Thecandidate’s research will focus on the selection and expression ofcandidate antigens, immunization studies, and assessment of immuneresponses, with a goal of developing vaccines that protect pregnantwomen and children.

Studies of vaccines will assess specific reagents against parasites andimmune responses in samples collected from affected individuals, as wellas on in vitro systems. Prior experience with protein expression,purification and characterization is essential. Excellent organizationaland communication skills are a must.

The research will be conducted in a collaborative environment at SeattleBiomedical Research Institute (see www.sbri.org), an independent,non-profit research institute that is affiliated with the University ofWashington. SBRI’s research facility is in the fast-developing SouthLake Union biotechnology hub that is home to many research organizationson the forefront of life science research.
