Description
A postdoctoral position is available in the NIH Intramural ResearchProgram to study, in early mammalian embryos, the regulation ofembryonic and trophoblast stem cell differentiation. The laboratory usesmolecular, cellular, genetic, and transgenic approaches to study theintegration of extrinsic signals by embryonic cells to direct theirendogenous developmental program. The mouse model is extensively used inthese studies, as well as human cell lines and a primate model employingpreimplantation embryos and embryonic stem cells derived from rhesusmacaques. Some areas of interest include integrin-mediated intracellularsignaling, regulation of trophoblast invasiveness, and maintenance ofembryonic stem cell pluripotency. See Wang et al. (2007) Dev. Biol.302:143-153 and Armant (2005) Dev. Biol. 280:260-280 for more detailedinformation about research by the laboratory. The Section onPeri-implantation Development is located at the NICHD intramurallaboratories on the Wayne State University School of Medicine campus inMichigan and is affiliated with the Reproductive Biology & MedicineBranch of NICHD.
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. and have less than five years postdoctoralexperience. Expertise in molecular biology, genetics, or biochemistry isrequired, along with a documented interest in developmental orreproductive biology. Advanced experience working with mammalianpreimplantation embryos or transgenic approaches is highly desirable.The successful candidate will be self-directed, technically proficient,and possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
Applicants should provide their curriculum vitae, bibliography, coverletter with a brief description of research experience and interests,and the names of 3 references (with phone numbers and e-mail addresses).This fellowship will be funded through an Intramural Research TrainingAward (IRTA) from the NIH. International applicants are also welcome toapply and would be appointed on a J-1 visa.
