Description

The Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Virginia CommonwealthUniversity has two postdoctoral research associate positions immediatelyavailable. Applicants must have an MD, PhD or equivalent degree andproven skills and experience in cell and molecular biology andpathobiology of the kidney.

The major focus of our research projects is on the molecular adaptationor signaling of renal glomerular cells, renal mechanism of hypertension,and pathogenic actions of homocysteine in arterial and glomerularsclerosis. Several animal and cell model systems, such as capillaryendothelial cells, podocytes and mesangial cells, will be used in theseprojects, and many novel and state-of-the-art techniques are availablesuch as real time PCR, confocal microscopy, FRET assay, fluorescentmicroscopic imaging of living cells, patch clamping, LC/MS, ESRspectrometry and in vivo molecular imaging. The department has a groupof outstanding scientists in renal and cardiovascular research,especially in renal signaling and glomerular pathobiology associatedwith hyperhomocysteinemia and hypertension.

Successful applicants will have the opportunity to work with them andget assistance in developing an independent career in the researchfield. The ideal candidate should have publication records in renal celland molecular biology and physiology in peer reviewed journals.
