Description

BACKGROUND:

The NIH-funded HIV Accessory and Regulatory Complexes (HARC) Center, led by Alan Frankel, will develop new tools and methods to create a complete picture of HIV-host cell interactions occurring during the early phases of the virus’s life cycle. The center will focus on key HIV proteins that perform important regulatory and accessory functions. We recently developed an approach (Nature (2007) 446, 806) to map interacting and buffering pathways within cells using pairwise genetic knockdown. We are looking for talented and motivated individual to develop this approach, systematically targeting siRNA and pharmacological agents for interrogation of the HIV infection cycle.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The role requires cloning and delivery of siRNA to cultured cells and analysis using FACS, viral titration, or other assays. Some experience of large-scale projects would be an advantage. The biologist will work as part of a team and training will be provided in the relevant techniques.

REQUIREMENTS:

A bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, or related field.
Experience of at least one of: DNA cloning methods, siRNA knockdown, cell culture, virology, microscopy, or computational biology.
Ability to work in a team.
Interest in HIV research
