Description

The Institute of Medical Microbiology at the University of Zurich is a leading diagnostic and research institution in Switzerland, providing excellent research opportunities in the interdisciplinary field of biomedical sciences. The Ribosome Group, headed by Dr. Erik C. Bottger, is studying the role of ribosomal components in protein synthesis, antibiotic activity and human disease, with an aim on developing new antimicrobial drugs and identifying mechanisms of and targets for therapy of ribosomal dysfunctions. The research group currently consists of two postdoctoral research associates, three PhD students, a lab technician, plus a varying number of M.D., M.S., and B.S. students.

We are now looking for an outstanding researcher to provide scientific expertise as well as organizational leadership to our growing research activities. The minimum qualification requires a PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or Microbiology, accompanied by a successful publication record. Previous work experience in ribosome biology, assay development, microbial genetics, and/or structural biology is a plus. Excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to work well in a team and in a multi-cultural environment, and a talent to lead and motivate others are key requirements in this position. The candidate will be expected to communicate effectively with an excellent command of the English language, as well as good presentation and writing skills.
