Description
A position is available for a Ph.D. scientist (biochemistry, chemistry, or medicinal chemistry background) to investigate the molecular basis for enzyme catalysis, inhibition, or regulation. Experience with metabolite/inhibitor synthesis or with computational approaches to docking/modeling of enzyme-ligand complexes would be an advantage for the candidate.
Expression and isolation of recombinant proteins will be required for pursuit of the project, which includes study of enzyme structure/function correlations and investigation/evaluation of new enzyme inhibitors. Other requirements include the ability to pursue a project with some independence and a record of publications from previous research.
The Miziorko lab group investigates animal and microbial enzymes of HMG-CoA and isoprenoid metabolism as well as homologous proteins. A variety of mechanistic tools (spectroscopically active substrate analogs, enzyme inhibitors, etc.) in our lab facilitates investigation of recombinant forms of these proteins.
Position appointments include a generous fringe benefit package. More experienced candidates may qualify for non-tenure track junior faculty appointments. The laboratory is located in an attractive urban university campus, adjacent to pleasant residential areas as well as many of Kansas City’s venues for cultural and social activities.
