Postdoctoral Position in Cancer Chemoprevention Research

Postdoctoral position in cancer chemoprevention research (head and neck and skin cancer) is available in the laboratory of Dr. Cherie-Ann Nathan at the LSU Health Sciences Center, Shreveport, LA to study pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of supplementation with a turmeric extract, Curcumin, in healthy volunteers and cancer patients, as well as its effects in the in vitro and in vivo cancer models. Dr. Nathan’s lab focuses on the use of pharmacologic inhibitors of mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) for the treatment of head and neck cancer as well as on cancer chemoprevention studies with natural products, such as curcumin, in head and neck and skin cancer models. Our research will take a comprehensive approach combining cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, animal cancer models, imaging modalities and clinical trials to uncover these mechanisms and the effects of therapy. These projects are being supported by NIH /NCI RO1 grants and intramural grants.
Highly motivated postdoctoral candidates with an enthusiastic interest in our research program are invited to apply. The candidate should hold a doctoral degree or equivalent with a background in cellular and/or molecular biology. Previous work experience in chemoprevention research, with mouse models, High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC ) and prior cancer translational research are highly desired. The incumbent will use various molecular and cell biology techniques including cell culture, immunohistrochemistry, Western blot, flow cytometry, spectrophotometry, HPLC , real time PCR and mutation analyses. Incumbent’s job functions include surgery, anesthesia and euthanasia of laboratory animals, evaluation of scientific and medical research data, and preparation of scientific manuscripts.
