Financially supported by Li Ka-shing Foundation, the International Institute of Infection and Immunity was launched in 2007 with the cooperation among Shantou University Medical College, University Health Network (Toronto) and the Medical Faculty of the University of Hong Kong. Dr. David Kelvin, the director of Division of Immunology at the International Institute of Infection and Immunity, has a strong background in transcriptomics with the special focus to explore novel immunopathogenic and regulatory events in emerging and established viral diseases such as Influenza, SARS, West Nile and HIV. His group has outlined many signature profiles of the host’s response during the onset and evolution of these infections, in particular focusing on the establishment chemokine and cytokine networks that led to the advances in diagnosis, treatment, and vaccination.
Up until now, Dr. Kelvin’s group has published over 150 peer reviewed papers, which have over 5,000 citations. His paper is published in highly cited publications in Science, Nature Medicine, Nature Immunology, J. Clin. Investigation, J. Experimental Medicine, J Virol etc. The Division has successfully obtained multiple research grants and awards from the Li Ka Shing Foundation, Shantou university medical college, the center of disease prevention and control (CDC-USA), Canadian institutes of health research, national institutes of health (USA).With a people-oriented principle, our division has been providing sound working environments and great developmental opportunities for the staff.
